    Oakville At A Glance

I was recently at a course and had the opportunity to hear someone speak from the Oakville Community Foundation.  The Oakville Community Foundation or "OCF" was developed in 1994 to manage charitable funds which are then redistributed into various community organizations.

Since 2008, the Oakville Community Foundation has been publishing its "Vital Signs Report", an annual community check-up and report card measuring the vitality of Oakville designed to stimulate discussion of local issues and to find community solutions for identified challenges.  In addition to addressing areas needed for improvement, the report also speaks to many of Oakville's strengths, a few of which I have highlighted below.

    Report Highlights:

    • 61% of people living in Oakville have a degree or diploma compared with the Ontario average of 51%
    • $101,675 is the median family income of all Oakville families
    • 71.1% of people living in Halton reported a strong sense of community belonging compared to 62.8% nationally and 67.7% provincially.
    • 39.9% is the projected increase in Oakville's population between 2015-2031
    • 183,700 is Oakville's projected 2011 population
    • 31% of Oakville residents reported charitable returns on their 2010 tax return versus 25% of Ontario residents and 24% of Canadians

For full access to the Vital Signs Report, click on this link.  It is a great visual snapshot of the issues that affect Oakville residents and a terrific source for people who would like more information about this amazing community.
