Joshua Creek & Wedgewood Creek Neighbourhoods

Joshua Creek and Wedgewood Creek Locations:

Joshua Creek - Bordered to the South by Upper Middle Road, to the North by Dundas Street, to the West by Eighth Line, to the East by Ninth Line

Wedgewood Creek - Bordered to the South by Upper Middle Road, to the North by Dundas Street, to the West by Trafalgar Road, to the East by Eighth Line

Joshua Creek runs through Oakville from the Dundas/Ninth Line area right to the base of Winston Churchill by Lake Ontario.  The area I’m outlining as “Joshua Creek” is in the North East side of town, not to be confused with the area south-east of Cornwall and Ford Drive which is also commonly referred as Joshua Creek (confusing, I know).  Wedgewood Creek is to the immediate West of the Joshua Creek area, on the other side of Eighth Line.

Joshua Creek & Wedgewood Creek Area Information:

Joshua and Wedgewood Creek are somewhat new areas in Oakville.  Development in both areas started around the same time (mid-late 1980’s), however the majority of development has been from the mid 1990 to early 2000’s. There are some limited parcels of land still under construction however the vast majority of of land is fully developed.  Nestled between the QEW, 403, and 407, the Joshua Creek/Wedgewood Creek area is a great spot for people who are heavy commuters to anywhere in the GTA.

This area has a number of ammenities close-by to keep the whole family entertained.  Centrally located in Joshua Creek is the Iroquois Ridge Community Centre.  The Centre is equipped with a competitive swimming pool, leisure pool with slide, fitness centre, older adults room, program rooms and a state-of-the-art library.  In nearby Glenashton Park, a much anticipated Skateboard Park is expected to be built in 2010.  Those interested in Golf and Tennis will appreciate the Joshua Creek Sports Centre at Burnamthorpe and Ninth Line.  The Centre features six tennis courts under a bubble structure complete with well equipped club house and pro-shop.  Golf features include an expansive grass teeing area and 25 matted hitting stations that will accommodate any level of golfer in addition to private instruction area and practice green.  Summer camps are also offered.  The focus of the camps is on tennis however other activities are also included such as golf, soccer, basketball, volleyball, field games and arts and crafts.  It’s a great summer program for kids...

Every year, The Oakville Beaver publishes its annual Reader’s Selection Awards, a poll of its readers favourite shops and services in Oakville.  The 2009 favourite strip mall is The Upper Oakville Shopping Centre located at the corner of Upper Middle and Eighth Line.  There is also another smaller shopping centre at Dundas and Prince Michael Drive.  Oakville Place Shopping Mall is a short drive away, as are the big box stores in nearby Mississauga (Dundas/403) area.

Joshua Creek and Wedgewood Creek Housing Information:

Joshua Creek has a great reputation for nice homes, good neighbourhoods and great schools.  The area was built more or less from South to North.  The properties closer to Upper Middle were first built in the late 1980’s, with more recent development in the 2000’s just south of Dundas Street.  While the vast majority of this area has been developed, there are still some new homes being built closer to Dundas Street.  It’s a great neighbourhood which offers a wide variety of housing choices with both small and large townhomes and semi-detached homes.  A brand new condo building at the corner of Prince Michael and Dundas Street will soon offer condo spaces which up until now have been unavailable in the area.  Townhomes in the area start in the mid $300,000’s to $600,000+ for large executive townhomes and semi-detached homes.  Detached homes range from the high $400,000’s to mid $1,000,000’s.

NOTE: Housing information varies significantly from street to street and month to month in large part due to fluctuating market conditions, desirability and demand for each home.  When it comes to moving into a new home, generalities are not enough which is why I highly encourage anyone interested in finding out specifics about the area to contact a local real estate expert who will customize a home search to suit your needs.  To find out more about my services, follow this link to my website
