    Southwest Oakville Neighbourhood

    Southwest Oakville Location:

Bordered to the South by Lake Ontario, to the North by Rebecca Street, to the West by Third Line, to the East by Dorval Drive

    Area Snapshot:

Southwest Oakville, also commonly referred to as Coronation Park has grown tremendously in popularity over the last decade.  Comprised of detached homes on large lots and tree-lined streets, the area has attracted many homeowner’s who prefer to live in an established neighbourhood.  Over the past 10 years or so, many homes have been either renovated or completely rebuilt.  As Oakville’s population grows, the demand for large lots in established neighbourhoods has steeply risen.   Where it was once an affordable alternative to the Morrison, Ford and Old Oakville areas, Southwest Oakville has quickly become an exclusive area.  The appeal of the area comes as no surprise to people who know the area well.  Located steps from beautiful Coronation Park, the well equipped Oakville YMCA, Oakville’s waterfront trail and beautiful downtown Oakville, Southwest Oakville is ideally located.

Coronation Park is a great spot to go for a walk with your dog along the waterfront path, take pictures, have a family picnic or entertain your children in the playground and splash pad.  It is home to the famous Waterfront Festival every June, a weekend long event featuring bands, rides, children’s entertainments, craft and wellness centres and food and drink.  Throughout the summer it also hosts a number of outdoor concerts, plays, etc.  The entire Southwest Oakville neighbourhood is a great place to walk around.  Those looking for a longer walk/run/bikeride can take Lakeshore to nearby downtown Oakville with its great shops, restaurants and harbour.  The Oakville YMCA is another great amenity to the area, conveniently located on Rebecca Street between Dorval and Fourth Line.  Here, you’ll find child care services, summer camp programs, 2 pools, a fully equipped Wellness and Fitness Centre, Indoor Track, Adventure and Climbing Centre and Basketball Courts.

    Southwest Oakville Housing Information:

Without repeating myself, I will say that Southwest Oakville is a beautiful place to live and explore.  The area offers only detached homes but within that is a good mix of bungalows, side/back splits as well as two storey homes.  Homes start in the mid $400,000’s to over $2,000,000.  Home values in the area fluctuate tremendously based on the street location, lot size and size and condition of the home itself.  Development first started in the 1950’s and 1960’s however most homes have undergone some level of renovation over the years.  Newer custom built homes can also be increasingly found in the area.

NOTE: Housing information varies significantly from street to street and month to month in large part due to fluctuating market conditions, desirability and demand for each home.  When it comes to moving into a new home, generalities are not enough which is why I highly encourage anyone interested in finding out specifics about the area to contact a local real estate expert who will customize a home search to suit your needs.  To find out more about my services, follow this link to my website www.lindsaywalls.com
