    Glen Abbey Area Information:

Glen Abbey is nestled in the area north of the QEW between Sixteen Mile Creek and Bronte Road.  Development in the area first started in the mid 1980’s.  Today, the area is quite established with a number of amenities nearby.

At the corner of Third Line and Glen Abbey Gate is the Glen Abbey Community Centre.  The centre includes a number of fitness classes and programs, skating rinks, a swimming pool, squash courts and a library.  Right next door, is the Oakville Gymnastics Club which is a non-profit organization that has been in Oakville for over 30 years.  Soccer players will be happy to hear that the nearby “Burloak Sports Centre” (near Burloak just south of the QEW) is opening in fall 2009.  The 41,000 square foot facility will house adult soccer leagues, a therapy clinic, fitness classes (including yoga and spin), a gym and sports bar.  Not too far away on the North side of Dundas at Neyagawa, a state of the art Sports Centre is currently under construction called North Park.  North Park will have an arena, soccer fields, cricket pitch, leash free dog zone, skateboard facility, splash pad, and playground.  Phase 2, scheduled for development in 2015 will include a community centre and library.  Phase 3, scheduled for development in 2018 will include an outdoor sports fields.

There are a number of trails and parks near Glen Abbey most notably the extensive trail systems of Sixteen Mile Creek and within Bronte Provincial Park.  There are a number of smaller trails within Glen Abbey itself including 14 mile Creek, Indian Ridge trail, McCraney Trail, Taplow Creek Trail, Merchants Trail, Glen Abbey Trail, Old Abbey Trail, Dorval Trail and Birchtree Trail.

Local shopping areas include the grocery and retail stores at 3rd Line and Dundas, 3rd Line and Upper Middle and Dorval and QEW.  Shopping isn’t limited to the area with plenty of shopping areas just outside the neighbourhood in nearby Burlington, downtown Oakville and the uptown core (Trafalgar and Dundas).
